🐰Questions to Ask a Rabbit Breeder
Whether you're buying your first rabbit or your fifth, asking thoughtful questions helps ensure you're supporting ethical, informed care and setting your future bunny up for success. Here are a few respectful, important things to ask:
🌾 Do you feed hay daily?
Hay is essential for digestive health and dental wear. A breeder who prioritizes hay is prioritizing long term wellness.
🏠 Can I see photos of your setup?
Most rabbitries are closed to visitors for safety and biosecurity but photos can offer insight into cleanliness, space, enrichment, and how rabbits are housed.
🥬 What do you feed, and why?
Ask about pellets, hay types, and any supplements. A thoughtful breeder will be able to explain their choices and how they adjust for age, breed, or health needs.
📝 Do you offer a transition guide?
This shows the breeder is invested in your success and your rabbit's well being beyond the sale.
💪🏼 What support do you offer after adoption?
Even a few weeks of follow up can make a huge difference. Ask if they're open to questions or updates.
🚩A Few Red Flags to Watch For. These don't always mean a breeder is “bad," but they're worth pausing over:
* ❌ No hay in the diet or dismissing its importance. This can make transition very difficult.
* ❌ Refusal to share any photos of housing or setup
* ❌ No clear transition guidance or support after sale.
* ❌ Overcrowded or unsanitary conditions in visible photos
* ❌ Defensiveness when asked basic care questions
Remember: good breeders want informed buyers. If someone reacts poorly to respectful questions, that's information too.

Wildflower Creek Lops - Buyer Requirements
Thank you for your interest in a rabbit from Wildflower Creek Lops! We're an ARBA Registered Rabbitry dedicated to breeding healthy, well-socialized Holland Lops with excellent temperaments. We raise rabbits for both pets and for show/breeding purposes.
🚩No Red Flag Words on Social Media:
Please when on my page do not use words that can be flagged by the app. Words such as "hopping" "looking" or "ready to leave" are used instead. Other words like "numbers" or emoji numbers such as (1️⃣0️⃣) are also used. However these subjects should be spoken of primarily over Messenger anyway to complete cut out the risk of being flagged and risk the page being shut down. To ensure our bunnies go to loving and responsible forever homes, we have the following buyer requirements:
1. Research and Understanding
Prior Research: Buyers are expected to have thoroughly researched rabbit care, including housing, diet, enrichment, health, and lifespan. We recommend consulting reputable rabbit care guides and resources.
Long-Term Commitment: Understand that a rabbit is a 7-10+ year commitment. They require daily care, attention, and will incur veterinary expenses from a vet that specializes in small animals, this usually means an “exotic veterinarian”.
Primary Caregiver: The rabbit should be primarily cared for by a responsible adult. While rabbits can be wonderful pets for supervised children, the ultimate responsibility for their well-being rests with an adult.
2. Housing & Environment
Spacious & Safe Housing: Buyers must provide an appropriately sized, safe, and secure enclosure. This means a minimum of 24" x 24" for a single Holland Lop, with larger being preferred (e.g., 24" x 36").
Appropriate Flooring: Wire-bottom cages are acceptable, provided they are covered with a slotted mat (e.g., plastic resting mat) to prevent sore hocks and provide a comfortable resting area while allowing for easy clean-up.
Outdoor Housing Considerations: If housing outdoors, the enclosure must be predator-proof, secure, and provide ample protection from all elements (rain, sun, wind, snow) and extreme temperatures. Adequate ventilation is also crucial. Rabbits must always have access to shade and protection from direct sunlight.
Rabbit-Proofed Area (if free-roaming): If the rabbit will have supervised free-roam time, the buyer must ensure their home or designated outdoor area is rabbit-proofed to prevent access to electrical cords, toxic plants, and other hazards.
Appropriate Bedding: Knowledge of safe and absorbent bedding materials (e.g., kiln-dried pine shavings, paper-based bedding, straw, hay) is required for litter boxes or nesting areas.
3. Diet & Nutrition
Unlimited Hay: Buyers must commit to providing unlimited, fresh timothy hay (or other appropriate grass hay for young rabbits) daily. Hay should form the majority of their diet.
Quality Pellets: A high-quality, plain timothy-based pellet (without added seeds, nuts, or colorful pieces) should be fed in appropriate, limited quantities based on the rabbit's age and weight. We'll advise on the specific brand and amount we're currently feeding. A small bag of the pellets your rabbit is currently eating will be sent home with them to help with the transition.
Fresh Water: Unlimited access to fresh, clean water daily, preferably in a heavy ceramic bowl or a reliable water bottle, most bottles will leak so a bowl is preferred by most for the long haul.
Limited Vegetables & Treats: Understanding which fresh vegetables are safe and how to introduce them gradually and in limited quantities. Rabbits should NEVER be fed iceberg lettuce. Knowledge that sugary treats and large amounts of fruit are harmful.
4. Health & Veterinary Care
Access to Rabbit-Savvy Vet: Buyers must have identified a rabbit-savvy veterinarian in their area and be prepared for routine check-ups and potential emergency care.
Spaying/Neutering Recommendation: For pet rabbits, we recommend spaying or neutering between 4-6 months of age (or as advised by your vet) for health and temperament benefits. This recommendation applies to pet rabbits not intended for breeding.
Signs of Illness: Buyers should be aware of common signs of illness in rabbits and understand the urgency of veterinary care.
5. Temperament & Handling
Gentle Handling: Buyers must be committed to gentle and appropriate handling of their rabbit.
Socialization: Understanding the importance of daily interaction and socialization to build a bond with their rabbit.
6. Adoption Process & Policies
No Impulse Buys: We don't sell rabbits on a first-come, first-served basis or as impulse purchases. We reserve the right to decline a sale if we feel the home isn't suitable.
Deposit: A non-refundable half down deposit will be required to reserve a rabbit. This deposit goes towards the final purchase price. All deposits are processed through Venmo Friends & Family or on our website. .
Pick-Up Schedule: Our rabbits will not leave their mother before 10 weeks of age minimum to ensure they are fully weaned and healthy. Buyers must adhere to the agreed-upon pick-up schedule for their rabbit, typically between 10 - 12 weeks of age (unless otherwise discussed).
Transport Pick-Up: We do allow reputable ground transports for pickup. It's the buyer's responsibility to arrange and cover the costs of the transport. Please discuss your transport plans with us in advance to ensure smooth coordination. If working with a transporter, the rabbit is yours from the moment it leaves my care and I am no longer responsible for its health/life.
Delivery & Halfway: We are happy to meet you if local within Michigan within a 3 hour drive to deliver your bunny, there will be a charge for gas and time, otherwise you can arrange pickup at a local spot of our choice. We do not allow visits to the rabbitry to help cut down on illness/diseases that can be easily spread.
Return Policy: While we don't offer refunds, we do reserve the First Right Of Refusal meaning that when you are looking to re-home one of our bunnies we require you to contact us first where we will either dismiss the offer or accept the rabbit for the same amount it left for. All updated information on the rabbit must be provided such as show wins, surgeries, or known health issues.
7. Other ConsiderationsResponsible Breeding/Showing:
For those acquiring rabbits for breeding or showing, we expect buyers to adhere to ethical breeding practices and showmanship standards.
Honesty & Open Communication: We expect honest and open communication throughout the adoption process. We're here to support you and your new rabbit. If you go more than 2 days without responding to my messages I will try one last time to communicate with you. If by 3 days you have not messaged or texted me back you will be given a notice that on a certain day and time your bunny will be considered available again. This remains the case for people who have reserved rabbits.
